OSC - Offshore Simulator Centre

OSC has spent the last 15 years developing some of the world's most advanced simulation solutions for the offshore industry. The software architecture, graphics, hardware, and flexibility of the solutions are several years ahead of our competition. All OSC solutions are based on a common software platform.
Within this, we have spent years developing a virtual world with all parameters based on details from the real world, which makes it very quick to add content and behave with real physics. Basing all core products on the same software platform provides incredible versatility and the possibility for rapid development of virtual prototyping. This puts OSC in a unique position to use the same simulators for training and verification of complex, customized operations, as users know that the behavior experienced in the simulator is exactly what will be seen in the real offshore operation.
Physics and collision
OSC physics runs real-time analysis, based on the properties of assigned materials to the objects, the weight, and COG. This ensures that collisions react correctly, including the friction coefficient between objects.
All permutations for a flexible coupling solution (line, chain, hose, rope, etc.) are dynamically adjusted to ensure optimal simulation performance while maintaining accuracy. In practice, this means that, for example, long stretches of anchor chain have a high segment length as they do not collide with other objects or bend, while wire lying on the deck has a short segment length to ensure accurate behavior.
Physical parameters, such as winch speed and response, are set in the simulator to ensure that the behavior is as it is in reality. Alternatively, for extremely specific simulation, customers can use their own functional mock-up units (FMUs) for simulated systems like hydraulics. This has the added benefit that the customer protects their IP while having an extremely accurate simulation. OSC's standard time simulation is 20Hz.
Training opportunities
Simulators are designed specifically to provide training in best practices and to test and build the level of competence required to perform even the most critical operations. It provides training for different operations, including human factor interaction and load planning.
Virtual prototyping
OSC has created a simulation world that includes all the actual environmental factors that will be used on land or offshore, and with solutions involving interaction between surface and underwater/underground surfaces.
OSC has built a wide knowledge of simulating environmental forces such as wind and waves through over ten years of work with offshore crews accustomed to the most challenging environments on the planet. This knowledge is used in the environment OSC provides as standard in all simulation.
The instructor station can control and alter parameters for wind shielding, atmospheric pressure, geographical location, time of day and year, wave attention, wind waves, water flow shielding, buoyancy effect, and sea transparency.
Expansion tools:
Tools for enhancing simulations, adding another dimension to project solutions and training.
The sea can be hidden in real-time simulation, providing a perfect view of the underwater environment or hoisting objects in an underwater elevator. The environmental effects (wind, waves, currents, etc.), movements of vessels, and movement of lifting objects are still vivid and calculated in real-time, just with full visibility beneath the water surface.
OSC Sandbox:
A new tool that allows customers to build complex simulation scenarios by dragging and dropping 3D models into the Sandbox. Verification simulations can then run, and the risk of a solution or operation can be assessed within minutes.
Examples of features:
• Insert new load objects
• Placement of load objects and rotation of items
• Change weight and CoG
• Insert loose items (shackles, tools, etc.)
• Ship / Rig layout
• Creation of training scenarios
Building with primitives in Sandbox:
• For rapid prototyping, it can be very effective to build directly in the simulator using primitive shapes. These can be scaled to the necessary sizes, locked together to create more complex items, and their weight and center of gravity can be adjusted.
